Future Memories explores how every vision of the future is constructed from images and events of the past. Mostly created from archival material and combining analogue photography and digital technologies, Taiyo Onorato and Nico Krebs have generated a world in which cityscapes glow with lights and ancient monuments are picked out with lasers, forming an extended commentary on how the future we construct for ourselves is born of personal and collective histories. Both natural and artificial light are depicted in the book as luminous and reflective, representing the opacity of the future city, its inherent mystery a reflection of the unknowability of times gone by.
