Gregory R. Miller & Co. & New York ConsolidatedApril 2021Selected by TANK
The prolific output of New York City-born artist Alice Mackler spans sculpture, ceramics, drawing, painting and collage, unified by a focus on the female form. Alice Mackler is the first monograph to be published on the artist and brings her playful, disobedient sculptures into full view. As if on the brink of sinking into the ground beneath them, her sculptures nevertheless possess a certain unshakeable fixity, expressing a defiance that could be applied to Mackler – who turns 90 this year – herself. As Kelly Taxter writes in the book’s central essay, “Mackler’s visibility resists the seemingly inevitable invisibility that befalls ageing women.”
